Perhaps you’ve heard Christians say, “There is a ‘God-sized’ hole in your heart that only Christ can fill.” This expression is in reference to the truth that we were designed for an intimate love relationship with God, fulfilled only through our personal belief in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin and for eternal life.
Without Christ, life is without meaning and purpose, and one will try to fill the void, or “hole in their heart,” with worthless substitutes that never satisfy. Even after a person receives Christ as their personal Savior, he or she may continue to choose the path of the world and believe the lie, “If I follow God’s call on my life, I will have to give up my personal dreams.”
If only they knew that the greatest joy comes in fulfilling the purpose God has for you. After all, He uniquely designed and crafted you for a specific purpose that is to be fulfilled during the particular time in history, in which you have been placed! When God’s purpose is fulfilled in you, others will be drawn to God’s love demonstrated through you, and Christ will be magnified, and glorified in the process.
When we are obedient to His calling, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us, we experience what Matthew Barnett, founder of the Dream Center in Los Angeles calls, “the miracle space: the gap between what we can accomplish on our own and what we can accomplish when we allow God to work through us.“ The most exciting adventure of our lives comes only when we allow the supernatural power of God in us to manifest itself through the good work God has called us to do.
1 Corinthians 2:9 reminds us, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.“ Marc Fey, author of The 210 Project says, “God wants to lead you to a place you’ve never been, to do things that you couldn’t dream up – to do more than just go for a ride on this hurtling planet.”
Don’t settle for the world’s mediocre offer of fulfillment and adventure, which is temporary at best, and will never satisfy your soul. Choose instead to follow God’s plan for your life, and impact eternity as He empowers you to serve and love others for Kingdom purposes.
“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”(Psalm 37:4) Only then, will you discover that the life He gives is more than you ever could have dreamed for.
