Brenda Spahn
The astonishing story of Brenda Lovelady Spahn who discovered God’s calling on her life to serve women in their time of transition from being incarcerated inside the Alabama prison system to starting a new life outside of prison. Brenda founded the Love Lady Center in Birmingham, AL – initially in her home hosting one woman (10 years ago) having been recently released from prison on parole. What God has accomplished through Brenda since that time is simply amazing. Today, the Love Lady Center houses nearly 400 women (and just as many of their children) in a former hospital facility in downtown Birmingham. The center provides comprehensive re-entry services to these women and their children including: housing, food, education, vocation training, mental health services, counseling, job placement, day care, and drug rehab. Most importantly, all of the center’s services are set on a foundation of Christ-centered Biblical teaching. Consequently, the center receives no federal funding and is funded completely by the faith-based community.
Lorenzo Brown
The story and testimony of a young African American man, Lorenzo Brown, who was shot in the neck as a teenager during a drive-by gang shooting incident. Lorenzo’s journey includes finding Christ during the complete hopelessness and brokenness of dealing with life as a quadriplegic and having no family or friends to help care for him. Lorenzo inspired an entire community to take a stand against gang violence and racial divide. He has created a foundation (Is-Able Ministries) to assist, serve and rehabilitate disabled and handicapped people in Birmingham, AL.
