In our second blog, I’m here (Marc Fey) to ask Don Ankenbrandt, co-author with me on The 2:10 Project, Discover Your Place in God’s Story, a series of questions about how God has been working in people’s lives to connect them to their unique calling assignments–essentially, to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of living our purpose in life. (This is the first part of 2 in our discussion.)

Specifically, we’re going to discuss, how does it work, this question of “finding your place in God’s story?”

Marc: Don, first of all, let me say how excited I am to be talking with you about this topic. While we’ve stayed connected over the past 4 years since the release of The 2:10 Project, it’s great to be working together closely with you again.

Don: Marc, I agree…it’s so much fun when you are on mission with someone that has a similar calling and passion. Ours is helping people discover their unique purpose and calling. How much fun is that?!

Marc: So, let’s jump in. We all agree the need around us is great, overwhelming even, in our communities, families, churches. And, we know that God has chosen us—all of us individuals who collectively make up the church—as His means of grace to the world.

Why do you think it seems like the needs are outpacing our ability to meet the needs. Are we losing ground?

Don: Over these last 10 years, I have had so many conversations with people concerning this very obvious trend in our society. Most people would agree that for some reason the church, and even our Christian worldview, seems less and less relevant and impactful to society. It appears to many that we are “losing ground.”

I see this differently. I see more and more people getting frustrated with just doing church and small groups—they actually want to figure out where they fit in God’s Plan. It seems to be a heightened conversation. I don’t think that we can put our finger on one main contributing factor since it’s a mysterious thing to know what God is actually up to, and a very complicated challenge to measure what He is doing.

Instead, I think we should redirect the conversation to ourselves and ask the question, “Where am I as an individual making a difference?”

I am convinced if every individual believer understood who they are and became activated into the works God has for them, we would see some pretty immediate impact. Then collectively this is the start of a movement. But it is one step, one person at a time.
